Lesson 19 Principle & Step:

Principle 7: Reserve a daily time with God for self-examination, Bible reading, and prayer in order to know God and His will for my life and to gain the power to follow His will.

Step 10: We continue to take personal inventory, and when we were wrong promptly admitted it. So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall.” 1 Corinthians 10:12

 

Lesson 19 – Highlights:

Jesus promises that if we live our lives like He tells us to we will know His truth and that truth will set us free. Did you hear that? We can be set FREE! This lesson in where our recovery comes to a crossroad.

It can also be called a lifestyle change. It is the conscious choice we make each day to leave the old self, bad habits, and hang-ups behind. It’s time we choose to embrace the new and improved self by following these simple actions:

  1. Taking time for what counts – Daily Inventory – “Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord.” Lamentations 3:40
  2. Evaluate the Good and Bad – Authenticity – “If we say that we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves, and refusing to accept the truth… we are lying and calling God a liar, for He says we have sinned.” 1 John 1:8-10
  3. Admit our wrongs promptly – Transparency – “This is how I want you to conduct yourself in these matters. If you enter your place of worship and, about to make an offering, you suddenly remember a grudge a friend has against you, abandon your offering, leave immediately, go to this friend and make things right. Then and only then, come back and work things out with God.” Matthew 5:23-24

A daily journal can be helpful in identifying negative behavior patterns or highlight reasons to celebrate your new healthy habits. Remember this is a process so be gentle and patient with yourself. Click on my podcast below to cover the questions about navigating the crossroads.

Lesson 19 – Questions:

  1. Let’s spend some time identifying our wins.
    – How has your behavior changed and or improved?
    – What specific relationships have been restored or improved?
    – How has your relationship with Jesus grown since you began your recovery journey?
    – List the new relationship that you have made along your journey.
  2. What does Step 10 mean to you?
    – We continue to take a personal inventory…
    – When we were wrong…
    – Promptly admitted it.
  3. Daily Journal the good and the bad, the victories and the failures
  4. What did you learn by keeping a daily journal?
  5. What areas did you identify as strengths?
  6. What areas do you need to continue to work on?

I have not been one to keep a journal on a regular basis but there have been times in my past that journaling was helpful in expressing my feelings. The more enlightening thing was reading my entries months and years later. It was amazing to see how much I have grown emotionally and spiritually.
